WDA Dogsledding

On February 24th, 2019 the WCVM Wildlife Disease Association sent 12 students on a field trip to the Waskesiu area to spend the day dog sledding, snowshoeing and having a wildlife tour with Sundogs Excursions. Special thanks to Sask Outdoors and Saskatchewan Lotteries for providing us with a grant to allow us to send our students on this enriching and educational experience!

Sundogs Excursions Trip

On January 21st, we sent twelve of our members on a field trip to the Waskesiu area to spend the day dog sledding, snowshoeing and having a wildlife tour with Sundogs Excursions. We would like to formally thank Sask Outdoors and Saskatchewan Lotteries for the financial aid to make this trip possible!

The U of S WDA is officially adjourned for the summer!  We have a great incoming executive team for the 2016-2017 year, and they already have some awesome ideas, so stay tuned.  In the meantime, get out there and see/research/appreciate some wildlife, friends!

WILD Seminar – Dr. Philip McLoughlin

The U of S Wildlife Disease Association is pleased to announce another instalment in our 2015-2016 WILD Seminar Series!  Dr. Philip McLoughlin (U of S, Department of Biology) will be discussing “Parasite Load, Body Condition, and the Ecology of Sable Island Horses“.

WDA Documentary Screening – Racing Extinction

Hello everyone!  We are excited to announce our first documentary screening event!  This semester, the Wildlife Disease Association (U of S Chapter) will be screening a couple of wildlife- and conservation-related documentaries.

Everyone is welcome – in addition to a great documentary, we will have popcorn and snacks… that should be all the incentive you need!  (There will be a $2 admission fee for non-WDA members.)

Aquatic Medicine Talk – Dr. Stephen

Come listen to a talk/discussion put on by the PAC and WDA about the role that vets can play in the world of animals that live under the water!! Dr. Craig Stephen will be discussing “Why vets should get involved in the wet world“.

This is the first aquatic medicine talk to grace the halls of the WCVM. If you are interested in aquatic medicine, want to incorporate fish into your practice, or just want to learn a bit about what an aquatic vet does, this is the talk/discussion for you! See you there!

WildEcol Seminar – Dr. Philip McLoughlin

The first WildEcol Seminar of 2016 will be given by Dr. Philip McLoughlin, who will be discussing the “Population and behavioural ecology of Sable Island horses“.

WildEcol Seminar – 2 Dec 2015

Happy December everyone!  There is an awesome WildEcol seminar coming up! Dr. Maureen Reed will be discussing “Ecology (In)Action: The Evolution of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves“.  Dr. Reed is a professor at the U of S School of Environment and Sustainability, and her current research focus is “sustainability-in-action” (more info here).

WildEcol – Dr. Reed

WILD Seminar – Dr. Vikram Misra

Everyone is invited to attend the latest instalment in our WILD seminar series!  Dr. Vikram Misra will be discussing “Bats: Threatening or Threatened?

  • When: 12:30-1:20pm on Monday, November 30th, 2015
  • Where: WCVM Room 2105

Dr. Misra is a professor at the WCVM in the department of veterinary microbiology. He specializes in virology and molecular biology, and has a special interest in bats and their role in emerging viral diseases of humans and domestic animals. Dr. Misra has been one of our most well-received speakers in the past, and the WDA is excited to have him back for what is sure to be another fun and engaging talk!

Tox on Tap – Dr. Jerry Haigh

Dr. Jerry Haigh will be at Tox on Tap TODAY!

Dr. Haigh is a retired wildlife veterinarian who has worked with both African and Canadian megafauna, and he will be discussing the toxic situation of poaching and rhinos.  It will be a night of awesome and informative discussion!
